Teacher Education Assistantship/Scholarship Program
This program is made up of the education faculty and is headed by Dr. Raymond King. Applications are accepted at the beginning of February for this scholarship. The committee meets in April or as soon as the budget has been passed for the next academic year.

The Duren Scholarship
This scholarship has been created to assist students who wish to prepare for a teaching career in science or mathematics.
Minority Scholarship
A number of scholarships are available to minority students who declare their intention of pursuing a teacher education major in early childhood education, elementary education, or secondary education due to the generosity of the Orlean Bullard Beeson family.
* Minority students are identified as Native American, Black American, Hispanic, Asian, or any other recognized racial minority.
Entering Freshmen
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to entering freshmen students who exhibit promise as future teachers.
The Jo Cooper and Henry W. Dark Endowed Scholarship Fund
The recipient shall be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need and a record of outstanding scholarship. The recipient must be a student within the School of Education, with plans to enter the teaching profession.
Beeson Education Scholarships
A number of $1,000 scholarships are available to undergraduate education majors in early childhood education, elementary education, or secondary education due to the generosity of the Orlean Bullard Beeson family.
Beeson Graduate Assistantships
Two $5000 graduate assistantships shall be awarded each year to graduate education majors in early childhood education, elementary education, or secondary education in the fifth year non-traditional, traditional masters or education specialist program or to educational leadership students in the masters or educational specialist degree program who are taking at least 6 hours of graduate courses.
Gail Hyle Memorial Award
Made annually to the young woman in the graduating class who best exemplifies those outstanding qualities of Christian character, leadership, school spirit and service.
John R. Mott Award
Presented to a man in the senior class who is adjudged by the faculty and the University Awards committee to represent the highest type of character, scholarship and student public service.
Service Award
Presented to a woman student who in the opinion of the University Awards Committee has contributed most in social service to the University.
James M. Sizemore Award
Presented to the woman in the senior class who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has best demonstrated character, personality, scholarship and unselfish service to Samford University.
The Ina Reese Scholarship
This scholarship provides assistance for a freshmen-level student in the School of Education who has at least a 2.0 average.
Gwendolyn M. Melton Scholarship
Given preferably to a woman majoring in Business-Education.
Liles-Fountain Scholarship
Given to women who are preparing to teach or enter some type of Christian vocational service.
Velma Wright Irons Memorial Scholarship
Will assist a student in the School of Education who is pursuing a vocational goal in elementary education and who has attained junior class rank.
Mae Ellis Moore Flynt and James H. Flynt Fund
This scholarship will provide an incoming freshman elementary or preschool education major with outstanding academic potential as demonstrated by high school grade point average and/or high standardized test scores.
The Scholarship Fund
Limited only to a student preparing for service in public education Raymond Christian either as a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Given on a basis of need.
Kathryn Abercrombie Award
Based on scholarship, character, worthiness and need with an emphasis on worthiness..... need is not necessary. Winner to come from sophomore, junior, or senior who is enrolled in the School of Education.
Kenny Morgan Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Mr. Marion Kenneth Morgan. He was head coach at Woodlawn High School and Athletic Director for the Birmingham City School system. He is also a graduate of Howard College (Samford University). A golf tournament and banquet is held each year for athletes who played for Coach Morgan at Woodlawn High School to raise scholarship money. The event funded over $36,000 this past year for scholarships. These scholarships are given to help deserving students attend Samford, and not limited to education majors, but are also open to all who demonstrate a financial need. Dr. Raymond L. King, from the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional Studies is on the board of directors.
