Athletic Training (ATHT)

The Athletic Training program prepares students in the major tasks comprising the role of a certified athletic trainer. These tasks include:
  • Prevention of athletic injuries
  • Recognition, evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries
  • Rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries
  • Health care administration
  • PProfessional development and responsibility
The program offers students a choice of two tracks of study. The first has the same requirements as the N-12 physical education major, plus additional credits in athletic training courses. The other track is a non-teaching major containing relevant courses, such a anatomy, physiology, psychology and nutrition in addition to athletic training studies. Both tracks prepare students to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination to become a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). Samford University has received undergraduate curriculum accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (formerly the Joint Review Committee on Athletic Training Education Programs). Please see additional information regarding Accreditation in the link to the right.
